Making Sense of the Vote

This just posted by “farm-geek”…(LetAlbertaDecide), and it helps us to make sense of the Oct. 19th vote on Question 10.

On October 19, Albertans are not voting to become independent… yet.

We’re voting on whether Alberta should begin the legal process toward a future, binding referendum. This referendum itself is non-binding.

That distinction matters.

If you believe Alberta’s relationship with Ottawa is working well, if you’re satisfied with the status quo, then Option 1 reflects that position.

But if you’ve been frustrated by cancelled pipelines, barriers to developing our resources, investment leaving Alberta, or feeling like our province has too little influence over decisions that affect our future, then ask yourself one question:

Why would Alberta choose to negotiate from a weaker position?

Option 2 doesn’t close any doors.

It gives Alberta greater leverage before any final decision is ever made.

If Canada is willing to offer meaningful reforms, this creates the strongest incentive we’ve seen in decades to bring them to the table. If meaningful change isn’t possible, Albertans would still have the final say in a future binding referendum.

Whatever your view on Alberta’s future, I encourage you to read the question carefully and vote based on what it actually says… not what others claim it says.
